Fringe Benefits of Faith

Mar 6th, 2009 by Matt | 1
Do you know why God chose you out of all the billions of people on this planet? God did not choose you to make you famous. God did not choose you to make you rich. God did not choose you to make all your problems go away. God choose you to make you more like Christ Jesus. God called us to make us more like Jesus.

When we get a new job, they sometimes give us fringe benefits. At McDonalds they give a free meal and a uniform. The state gives health and pension benefits, vacation time and sick leave. These are all fringe benefits. Now the business does not give us these things simply to make us happy. They give them to us to encourage us to work as an employee. Being an employee is the main thing.

Going to heaven is just a fringe benefit. Being physically healed is fringe benefit.  Getting an answer to prayer is a fringe benefit. Being blessed with a new job is a fringe benefit. Unfortunately, we’ve made the fringe benefits of our faith in Christ the main thing. The main thing with God is that each of us become more like Christ Jesus wherever we are 24/7.

Wherever we are, wherever we go, whatever we do, we are called to reflect the love and grace of God.  In doing so, we are being the very people God has chosen each of us to be!
