What I Missed

Dec 23rd, 2009 by Matt | 0

The other day we had some guests coming over to our home and the house was just about spotless. I say “just about spotless” because about 30 minute before we expected a crowd of friends I discovered a red spot on the carpet. I vacuumed it a few times and the spot was still there. I scrubbed the spot and pat dried it the carpet, but the spot was still there.

I was in the process of scrubbing the carpet a second time when I noticed the spot started to move. Like an idiot, I kept scrubbing the spot and after about another 2 minutes of scrubbing I finally realized that the red spot was a ray of sun coming through the blinds. I felt stupid, but I didn’t feel bad about it until my guest showed up and talked about how beautiful and rare the “red sunset” was that day.

I missed out on a beautiful sunset because I was busy paying attention to the wrong things. During this Christmas season, I’m even more embarrassed to admit the times I miss out on God’s Son. I can get so caught up in making sure I have bought all the right presents, preparing for company, parties, and food that I sometimes miss out on what the season is really about-the birth of Jesus into this world.

In the midst of whatever business you find yourself in, I pray that you might not miss out on the celebrating the birth of our Savior, the birth of God’s Son!
