Throughout the season of Lent, Greater Heights' will be collecting new and gently used books for Fuller Elementary in southeast Raleigh. These books will be used in conjunction with Fuller's summer feeding program and will allow children to take books home over the summer in order to continue to nourish a love for learning in homes where books can be considered luxuries. Books for all ages are requested and can be dropped off in the lobby. Contact Kendra Culberson (919 -274-4283) if you have any questions. ... See MoreSee Less

"Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger."

I sometimes am asked about God’s relation to animals. I am asked about it so frequently, I thought I would share some of the many things God reveals about it in His Word. Isaiah describes a time when “the wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together” (11:6), God calls the creation of animals “Good” (Genesis 1:25), commmunicates with animals (see Genesis 6-7 as it relates to the ark and I King 17 about Elijah and the Ravens), cares about animals well-being (Matthew 10:29-31), Psalm 36:6 God will preserve “both people and animals”, Psalm 148:7, 10 and Psalms 150:6 says animals bring glory to God, and animals belong to God (Psalm 24:1).

John Wesley was convinced by his study of the Bible that animals mattered to God and was a prominent exponent of animal rights. He was convinced dogs, horses, oxen, etc. would be in heaven since God would want everything God created in heaven for eternity. You can see how deeply Wesley worked on a theology of animals in his 1782 Sermon #60 “The General Deliverance” and again in his 1785 sermon "The New Creation."
